Have you ever wondered how many young people end up in trouble each year because they:
said ‘No thanks. I’m not drinking tonight.’ but then couldn’t handle the pressure from peers to ‘just have one or two’ and handle filthy looks, sarcasm and name-calling?
didn’t know how to remove themselves from a ’shout’, ’round’ etc or didn’t know how to avoid getting into one in the first place?
said they couldn’t drive because they’d been drinking but then couldn’t handle the pressure from their friends who demanded a lift? and
felt that they should refuse a lift with a drunk driver but couldn’t stand up to their high-spirited friends who said ‘it’ll be safe’?
And, have you ever wondered: Why didn’t he just say ‘no’? Why didn’t she stand up for herself? Why didn’t he leave the party and go home? Why didn’t someone stop him? and Why didn’t she refuse to get in the car?
Well, the problem is that many teenagers find these these things hard to do. It can be hard to speak up and risk being ridiculed, mocked and disapproved of by the very same people that you’re trying to impress. Even normally resilient kids can slip up.
But it’s not so hard if you have a set of realistic and personalised strategies (including Personal Conversation Scripts), the social communication skills to deliver those strategies in the real world and the confidence to use them. And this is exactly what the 10-step technique Real Life Rehearsals® with Agent-Provocateur Role-Plays® delivers. Mark works with you to develop a shared vision and can present directly to your students and provides a variety of professional learning opportunities so you can add a practical teaching strategy to your toolkit. The following is a guide to how Mark can help.
1. Book Mark to present directly to your students
Topic 1: The 6 principles of handling alcohol
The 6 principles are equally important and includes the development of strategies and skills (principles 5 & 6 respectively). However, more time can be allocated to the principles that the school feels are most important. 40-100 mins. 3-200 students.
Topic 2: How to say no to a drunk driver, refuse to drink more than you want to, and more
This is experiential and interactive. It concentrates on the development of strategies and skills (related to principles 5 & 6 above) to deal with potentially difficult situations and tough conversations. It is based on the 10 step technique Real Life Rehearsals and Agent Provocateur Role-Plays. 40-100 mins. 3-100 students.
